Q: What inspired you to go into medicine?

Madison Campbell, MD, was part of the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus's inaugural graduating class. She is now a first-year resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Med Center Health, a regional health system that partnered with the college to establish its regional campus.

Q: Why did you want to pursue your residency at Med Center Health?

Fortunately for doctors and patients, advancements in medicine and health care have led to fewer medical emergencies; however, for anesthesiologists in training, this also means a reduced number of cases that help them develop proficiency in their field.

Aric Johnson, MBBS, helps residents and fellows fulfill that necessary experience through advanced simulation training.

This summer, a mere month after returning to her hometown of Hazard, Ky., for her first year of residency, Danielle Bocook, MD, saw it destroyed by eastern Kentucky’s worst flooding in more than 60 years.

In recognition of her growing responsibilities and oversight of a maturing program, Rebecca Todd, MD, has been promoted from assistant to associate dean for the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP).

Over the past five years, the UK College of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) has undergone a remarkable transformation. GME has added 21 new residency and fellowship programs, 200 additional fellows and residents, and a new partnership with the Medical Center at Bowling Green to its varied graduate medical education training offerings.

Medical School Friends Match at UK

The UK College of Medicine is excited to announce that Diana Heiman, MD, professor of family and community medicine, has been selected to serve as associate dean for faculty development and advancement.

Rachèle Yadon, MD, is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Along with serving on the faculty, she is a diversity and inclusion ambassador. In this role, she is charged with developing more equitable practices and leading these efforts in her department.

He had stretched himself too thin with involvement in organizations and programs, and he started suffering burnout. He then missed the window to take his medical school entrance exam junior year.

Megan Hutchcraft, MD, a gynecological oncology fellow at the UK College of Medicine and UK Markey Cancer Center, was recently recognized by the premier organization for professionals in gynecologic cancer care. During the Society of Gynecology Oncology’s (SGO) winter meeting, Dr. Hutchcraft was awarded the SGO 2022 Best Oral Abstract Award. She was selected among nearly 200 submissions and was one of 45 accepted abstracts. “I've never won an award like that before, so it's really motivating for me,” Dr. Hutchcraft said.

The UK College of Medicine is excited to announce that Sarah Hall, MD, PhD, and Eleftherios Xenos, MD, PhD, have been elected to represent the college on the University Senate.

The University Senate is the faculty voice in the governance of our college and the University and determines broad academic policies of the University. Dr. Hall and Dr. Xenos will serve as College of Medicine representatives for three-year terms beginning in August.

In 2020, high-profile murders of Black civilians by police garnered national attention, shining a light on the growing need for social change. Learners at the UK College of Medicine collaborated to compose a letter to their leadership, advocating for solutions to combat systemic racism. The College of Medicine administration engaged with learners to implement strategies and initiatives that would address their concerns.
